Studies

Hey,
It's been a while since my last post. The last couple months have been pretty crazy so I didn't get much time to sit down and draw. Luckily in the past couple of weeks I decided to take just an hour, here and there, to do a quick study. I've mostly just used stock from DeviantArt for lack of wanting to take time away from drawing to track down anything else.

Anyway, here are my favorites:

News and Sketch

First off, the news. I made a RedBubble account a couple days ago so I have somewhere to post/sell the t-shirts that I design for Woot Derbies along with any other designs. Woo! It's exciting stuff.
Right now I have this Portal poster up:

Secondly, I have a sketch for you:

It's Mockingbird (Marvel), who I fell in love with a few months back for....some unexplained reason. I really enjoy her backstory and what she's up to in the more current storyline is really awesome (SUPER SOLDIER SERUM GOOO).

Rocket Buddha

Like I mentioned in my last post, I've been getting into t-shirt design my participating in Woot derbies. I started last week with the topic "Gold." Here's the design I came up with:

I titled it Fly Me to the Moon (I couldn't get Frankie's song out of my head). It's a little zany, but I really enjoyed working on it and learned a lot. Like...how to work with only six colors. That was probably the most difficult part of my first design along with picking out my Pantone's BEFORE choosing random colors. It was rather tedious to go through and compare all my colors to the Pantone list to find substitutes, so I made sure to pick out my colors before moving out of the sketch stage on my Queen's Best Friend design.

Queen's Best Friend

Long time no post. I have some backlogged sketches I need to show, but I'm going to start out with something new I've been trying lately: Tshirt designs! I never thought I'd find myself designing t-shirts and enjoying the heck out of it, but it's happened. We can't predict everything. I entered the last two Shirt.Woot derbies, and I'll start by posting this week's entry. The topic is England:

View the in-derby entry here
I might be the only one, but the corgis were my favorite part of the opening ceremony for the London Olympics this year. They were ADORABLE, so there was no way I could pass up the chance to do a corgi-related design for this week's derby.

Here's a quick sketch of Riven from League of Legends in her alternate Redeemed costume.

I love her hood.

Dragon Rider Final + Happy April

Well, after working on this for the better part of the day, my entry for this week's CHoW is finally complete!

I was lazy and didn't take off the borders for my final entry illustration, but deal with it...I worked on it all day! :]
I'm SO MAD though because Photoshop crashed randomly near the end (luckily right after saving my illustration), so I lost my character turn-around and had to redo it really quickly. It's a little ugly because of that, and I didn't get to refine the dragon on the ref sheet much at all. Ah well, I'm happy that I stuck with it and finished my entry!

Stormy

MORE DRAGONS:

I'm happy to finally work on a bit of the background, but I'm still avoiding the (currently) broken castle walls because I'm still unsure if I like them. I AM a fan of the stormy sky though - clouds are fun to render. In the last WIP I'm finally getting to some light..it was looking terribly flat before. I've still got a lot of work to do with the light tomorrow before I turn it in to the ChoW.

More Dragon Updates

Here's an update on my Dragon Rider progress:

I haven't worked on the character much at all yet, but the dragon is rendering out rather well. The background..eh, I'm not too solid on it still.

Dragon Rider

Hey there, I have a lot of WIPs today of a Dragon Rider! I decided to finally jump into a Character of the Week challenge over at ConceptArt.org because of this week's awesome topic. Hopefully after this introductory challenge, I'll continue to participate.

The first three WIPS are my reference sheet (I'll eventually be adding a back view to the character), and the final one will be my fully rendered scene. I like how it's going so far, but I'm currently having trouble with the coloration of the dragon. I can't decided if I like it or not. Hopefully I'll get it figured out by Sunday

Render and Correction

I've had this update waiting around, so here is the render for Amelia:

I don't have much to say this time around..just lots of hours rendering. I ended up trading out the corset top for men's button up. The corset really didn't work with the overall feel of the character, and I think she looks much better going this rout. I plan to add some more minute feminine details rather than such a large statement that the top gave.

Amelia Update

Here's the design I decided to go with for my western character:

I think I may change a few things yet, but I like the direction thus far. My biggest hang up at the moment is that I'm not a huge fan of her top, so I'd like to change it but I'm unsure where I'd like to go with it instead.
Hopefully the long process of rendering/detailing will give me some ideas.

Western Character

Hey hey, I'm here with a quick update on some character designing. Starting out, here's the thumbnails of where Amelia's design started:

My general concept for this character was a western styled girl who'd grown up as a proper lady, then as a result of some incident decided to go rogue and be all...awesome (yeah yeah, stories aren't really my thing). Either way, this is why she has a mix of female and male clothing.
The whole western theme isn't something I've delved into before, so coming up with her outfit was challenging and took quite a bit of research. Admittedly, all of my boot designs are completely off the wall and not period at all...I tend to like embellishing.
Either way, she was a fun character to design and has a nice flow so far. I'll be posting the line art for the chosen design in the coming days as well.

The Writer

I have a fourth character to post, however this one not from the Sunday game. This one belongs to the DM of the Sunday game, but it's his character for a different game in which he plays a Half-Orc Commoner who is a ...writer:

I don't play the game this character is in, but he seems rather strange to have such an academic Half-Orc. It was fun to draw either way and I'm glad to see I had some success drawing anything orcish!

The Druid

I'm back with the last character in our Sunday Pathfinder game party: the Svirfneblin (Deep Gnome) Druid.

So this character was very interesting to draw as I usually don't draw Gnomes or bald characters. I don't know if it's obvious yet, but my favorite part of a character is the hair!
The character itself is also very interesting because all of his animal companions (he has 3 - Pathfinder archetypes are awesome, btw) are DINOSAURS! I wonder if he found any in the Underdark...

The Barbarian

Hello there! I'm back with another character drawing from our Sunday Pathfinder game. This one is of my friend's Catfolk Barbarian-Pirate:

I can't remember the name of the archetype she chose, but it essentially made her character, Finn, into a sea-faring Barbarian Pirate, which is awesome. Finn is rather crazy and loves a good fight, which can make roleplaying with her very interesting. ;)

The Monk

Quick post before I head to bed! I've been drawing a few characters for my friends and I for a new Pathfinder game we started last month so I'd like to post the first one in the series:

This is my character Teh Ang (long story).. She's Monk of the Four Winds which gives her the power to use the elements in her attacks.

What happened to January?!

This month flew by pretty quickly, and honestly I'll be happy to see it go. It was a bit too stressful for my liking. I did have some time to draw, so here's a couple of WIPs of my most recent painting project:

I obviously didn't take quite enough breaks to screenshot my progress between the sketch and laying down values. It's going to be a blast to detail the bobtail squid - they have some interesting patterns and colors. Actually..color is something I'm warring over in my head because I don't want it to conflict with the emotion of the piece, though there are a few ways it could help.
It'll probably be in flux for a while yet.
